Coronavirus, hydroxychloroquine
In mid-2020 the AP reported that President Trump was facing widespread criticism for taking hydroxychloroquine, ineffective against coronavirus and potentially dangerous, stating that “No large, rigorous studies have found the drug safe or effective for preventing or treating COVID-19.” Source.
Mere months later a systematic review (which collates data from many previously published studies) published by Elsevier found that “HCQ is consistently effective against COVID-19 when provided early in the outpatient setting, it is overall effective against COVID-19, it has not produced worsening of disease and it is safe.” Source. A more recent paper published in The American Journal of Medicine reveals that hydroxychloroquine’s use in coronavirus patients is “associated with reduced mortality”, can “reduce the progression of disease”, and can “prevent hospitalization”. Okay then.
