Extreme fake news: AP just makes shit up, interviews crying dead woman
President Trump’s “fake news” claims against mainstream news organisations have been described by establishment figures as “actually dangerous”. Source.
The AP, one of the top organisations that puts the ‘mainstream’ in ‘mainstream media’, included a striking bit in an article (in its original form) about a possible “attempt to stifle conservative voices”: “Martha Flores, who hosts an evening show on Radio Mambi, isn’t sure about that. She attended the news conference but declined to speak. “Look at this,” Flores said, pointing at her eyes watering. “I know I would just cry.”” Source.
This was some scoop by the AP, since Flores, Miami Spanish-language radios’s “Queen of the Night”, has sadly been dead for 2 years. Source.
Okay then.
There’s more. With cries of ‘fake news’ inevitable, the AP issued a correction, which may have made the situation worse, since they revealed their standard of journalism apparently includes just picking some rando out of a crowd and claiming they’re some authoritative voice: “Flores died in 2020. The comments were made by another woman.” Source.
Okay then.
Note: Will this remind the populace of the uncomfortable (given certain claims of stolen elections) notion that ‘dead people vote’, which a Politifact fact-check acknowledged “does happen” (source)?
