It’s that time of year again. President Trump is running again, so the mainstream media is obliged to carry water for his opponents, and do what they do best: misinformation, disinformation, and fake news. There’s so much to glean from the recent CNN Town Hall, so we’ll just look at a few highlights.
CNN shows exactly why factchecks have become a joke: “Trump’s claims about gas prices are misleading. Trump claimed Wednesday that he got gas prices down to $1.87 – and “even lower”… While the price of a gallon of regular gas did briefly fall to $1.87 (and lower) during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, the national average for regular gas on Trump’s last day in office, January 20, 2021, was much higher than that – $2.393 per gallon”. Source. A lot of fact checks nowadays seem to amount to: “Technically the racist made a true statement, but that dog has a puffy tail, so Orange Man bad!”
As to be expected, CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins asked about the Capitol incident, “why did it take you three hours to tell them to go home?” Source. Trump came prepared with printed Tweets, performing an actual factcheck in real time, showing he implored with his supporters to be peaceful and to comply with law enforcement, before and quickly after things got heated.
After the event CNN’s Gary Tuchman effectively called Trump a liar and asked some Trump supporters if it bothered them “that he keeps taking about 2020 and not 2024”. After being challenged by a participant Tuchman admitted “that was the first thing” they asked Trump about. Source.
Best of all, CNN’s factcheck tackles the Hunter Biden laptop scandal. With Trump bringing up the issue of the 51 ‘intelligence’ agents signing a letter basically saying the story was Russian disinformation, CNN actually admits that “No proof of Russian involvement in the release of those emails has emerged”. But then they have to drop their facade of objectivity and tell this whopper: “But there’s also no proof that the letter swayed the outcome of the election.” Source. Except that it should be obvious that the entire political establishment and mainstream media quashing a damning - and true - story about the Biden family just before the election should have some effect, and polls indicate that it definitely did.
Okay then.
Extra: Let’s wait and see for the factcheck on President Biden, and if they’ll call him a liar over things like his false claims about the COVID-19 vaccines stopping infection.
Let’s not hold our breath.
They loved him before he ever ran for president and then OMG, since 2016 they have been out for blood. I never understood WTF their collective problem was, and IS. One would have thought after he won and was inaugurated Jan 2017, they (MSM & Democrats) would've tried to get along for the greater good. They doubled down and while I hadn't voted for him, I was completely astonished and finally, as the months and years went by, I started my own fact-checking of NYT et al. WOW. They really were lying, by commission and omission. I was floored. Constantly.
