Mainstream news outlets have long seemed keen to label anybody concerned with immigration and/or Islam a hateful bigot. The Guardian, for example, just last year warned us that “anti-Muslim racism is endemic in British society”. Source.
Now the Guardian reports: “many liberal residents in Hamtramck, Michigan, celebrated as their city attracted international attention for becoming the first in the United States to elect a Muslim-majority city council… a symbolic but meaningful rebuke of the Islamophobic rhetoric that was a central theme of then Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s campaign”. Some of the Muslims there are concerned about Islamophobia, with “LGBTQ+ supporters not respecting their religion”. So now a “fully Muslim and socially conservative city council passed legislation banning Pride flags from being flown on city property that had – like many others being flown around the country – been intended to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community”, leading to cheers in the community and comments on social media like “Fagless City”. This happens after “largely Muslim Bangladeshi and Yemeni immigrants supplanted the white eastern Europeans”. The Guardian further reports: ““There’s a sense of betrayal,” said the former Hamtramck mayor Karen Majewski, who is Polish American. “We supported you when you were threatened, and now our rights are threatened, and you’re the one doing the threatening.”” Source.
Okay then.
Extra: Is this a surprise? Have the powers that be silenced and censured critics as bigots simply for stating facts, even when the critics are female, Coloured, LGBT, Muslim, and so forth? There’s too much to report here on this issue, which I do cover quite a bit in my ongoing university teaching on World Religions. One handy resource, however, is the infamous 2013 Pew poll on mainstream Muslim beliefs regarding governance, women’s rights, homosexual rights, religious freedom, etc. Source. And maybe you can find some coincididence linking, as reported by the Washington Post, “the 10 countries in which homosexuality can be punishable by death”. Source. It turns out that no, the typical Muslim is not a paragon of modern progressivism.
Taqqiya. Look up the word
Irony much.
