Trudeau on truckers and protests
Several years before becoming the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau was seemingly a supporter of freedom of speech and the right to protest, responding to someone on social media claiming Trudeau’s supporters had their account suspended because of an unpopular opinion with: “Not fair, and I’ll have no truck with that. I encourage dissonance, it’s the only way to grow…” Source. Around the same time Trudeau also posted on social media: “When a government starts trying to cancel dissent or avoid dissent is when it’s rapidly losing its moral authority to govern -Harper in 2005”. Source.
Now in February 2022 CNN reports: “The Canadian government is invoking the Emergencies Act for the first time to address the impact of continued protests across the country over Covid-19 health measures, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told reporters… it can temporarily suspend citizens’ rights to free movement or assembly… the government is taking steps to stop financial support of illegal protests… financial institutions are being given the power to suspend or freeze personal or corporate accounts they believe are being used to fund illegal protests.” Truck owners were warned “that if the vehicle is being used in a blockade, the corporate account can be frozen”. Source.
Okay then.
