El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele has big, as they would say in his language, ‘cojones’. He sent El Salvador’s famously high violent crime rate plummeting, after detaining huge numbers of gangbangers. As logical people would expect, his people adore him, granting him a landslide victory in their recent election. Source. Of course, all of us in the rest of the world would no doubt praise his amazing achievements and seek to learn from his methods, right? Right?! Ha! If you think so, you haven’t been paying attention.
The New York Times asks, “But at what cost?”. Source. As does CNN. Source. MSNBC calls Bukele “power-hungry” and claims that he “suspends important rights”. Source. The Washington Post, of course, also has a whinge, giving a voice to “a passionate advocate for ending mass incarceration”. Source. Apparently it’s preferable to let rapists and murderers roam free. The Aussies love doing it. Source. Reuters cites human rights groups concerned with such things as murderers dying in custody. Source. The horror! The BBC, always good for a laugh (their lies about excess deaths are just hilarious), draws attention to “some disturbing cases of wrongful arrest”. Source. When asked on this by a BBC journalist Bukele calmly that these are accidental, and noted that Western countries also arrest innocent people, sometimes detaining them for decades. Source.
Okay then.
Isn’t it heartwarming to learn that our experts and media authorities in the West are so concerned with the rights of rapists and murders in the developing world? Why don’t they care so much about their own citizens who are suffering, like the COVID unvaccinated, persecuted for nothing (like me), and the ever-growing number of vaccine injured? What about our human rights? Fuck us, right?
Okay then.
Extra: It’s getting harder and harder to not come to the conclusion that they simply hate us. They love criminals, they love immigrants, they love males who want to access female spaces because they identify as women. They love protecting Ukraine’s borders while neglecting their own. They love clamping down on local fossil fuel extraction while importing it from overseas. They love accusing truth-tellers of misinformation whilst simultaneously lying to us. Are you a regular, hardworking, freedom-loving, law-abiding citizen? No soup for you!
"It’s getting harder and harder to not come to the conclusion that they simply hate us."
Some actually hate, but most merely despise. It's a very human condition, this requirement to somehow justify self-interest by means of vilification.
Indeed. Our rulers do hate us and don’t care about us or what we think. They do senseless acts and pass senseless laws. We are the proles and all we can do is rage against machine.
